Phillip H. Jennings, 96, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. Family services will be held at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Confidence Cemetery in Georgetown, Ohio. Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Community Presbyterian Church 55355 Mound Rd., Shelby Twp., MI 48316. Mr. Jennings was born September 1, 1912 in Georgetown, Ohio to Hanson & Louella (Phillips) Jennings. He graduated from North High School in Columbus, Ohio in 1930. On May 13, 1939 he married the former Helen White in Georgetown. Phillip moved to Grosse Pointe, Michigan to take a job with Michigan Bell Telephone Co in Detroit. He retired as plant supervisor in 1973 after thirty-five years. Phillip was a member of St. Thomas Community Presbyterian Church in Shelby, Township where he formerly served as an elder, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Upon retirement he moved to Harbor Springs, Michigan. Phillip enjoyed downhill skiing, the water and sailing. He was a member of Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit and Little Traverse Yacht Club in Harbor Springs. He sailed in the Port Huron to Mackinac Race many times, and once crewed on the winning boat. Upon moving to St. Joseph three years ago, Phillip resided at Whitcomb Tower. He enjoyed his lake view room where he could watch the beautiful sunsets, the fireworks, and the boats and ships entering and leaving the harbor. Phillip is survived by his daughter Mary Lou Gignac of St. Joseph, and three grandchildren-James, Kate, and Andrew Gignac. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen on March 25, 2001.
