Arthur L. Jesswein

Arthur L. Jesswein, 87, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Catherine Balk officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Peter&r’s Church in St. Joseph. Mr. Jesswein was born December 17, 1921 in Berrien Springs, Michigan to Daniel & Augusta (Schadler) Jesswein. He graduated from Berrien Springs High School in 1939. Art served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. In 1946, he married the former Ella Guske in St. Joseph. They celebrated 46 years of marriage before her passing on September 13, 1992. Art was employed at Whirlpool in St. Joseph, retiring in 1987 after twenty-two years. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Whirpool Old Timers, and Stevensville American Legion Post #568. Mr. Jesswein is survived by two sons-James (Debbie) Jesswein of Holt, MI, Gary Jesswein of St. Joseph; and three grandchildren-Bronwen, Blair, and Bryce Jesswein. He was preceded in death by three brothers-Clarence, Albert & Daniel Jesswein, Jr., and by two sisters-Gertrude Jamerson and Viola Fletcher.
