Ruth's Obituary

Ruth E. Maas, 83, of Stevensville, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the University of Chicago Hospital in Chicago. Private Graveside Services will be held at Crystal Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Scottdale United Methodist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mrs. Maas was born August 10, 1925 in Burleigh Co., South Dakota to Edward & Mae (Collins) Arney. In October 1943 she married Seymour Maas at Camp Crowder, Missouri. She was employed as a cashier at National Foods & Al’s Thrifty Mart, both in Benton Harbor. Ruth was a member of Scottdale United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, knitting, traveling, and especially the time spent with her grandchildren. Mrs. Maas is survived by her son Al Maas of Stevensville; her daughter Marian Jaymes of Stevensville; three grandchildren-Jayson (Katie) Maas, Sabrina (Paul) Pugh, Ginger (Andy) Struckhoff; great-grandchildren- Brendan Maas, Zachary Struckhoff, and Charles Jaymes serving on USS Cole; and her sister Jane Nelson of South Haven, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband Seymour on December 18, 2007, and by four brothers & three sisters.
