Michael Dumke, Jr., 89 of St. Joseph, MI., passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Lakeland Medical Center of St. Joseph.
A service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 3590 Lincoln Ave., St. Joseph, MI. A public visitation will be held on the same day from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph Public School Foundation. Funeral arrangements are with Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. Michael was born on August 12, 1919 in St. Joseph, MI. In 1946, with his brother Ray, he started the accounting firm Dumke & Associates from which he retired only a few years ago. Michael married Magdalene Wachholz on January 6, 1946 in Milford Center, Ohio. Maggie and Mike met in Australia while they were both serving in the military during World War II. Michael was a member of the St. Joseph High School Athletic Hall of Fame and was involved with various Indiana University Alumni Associations. Michael and his brother Raymond, played football together at St. Joseph High School and Indiana University. He served for over 40 years on the City of St. Joseph Housing Commission.
Michael is survived by his wife of sixty three years, Magdalene (Wachholz) of St. Joseph, MI. Mike is survived by his nephew, Michael E. (Donna) Dumke of St. Joseph and three nieces, Julie (Ronald) Weaver of Baton Rouge, LA; Suzanne (Craig) Barrows of Natchez, MS and Anne (David) MacDonald of St. Joseph. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Inez R. Dumke of St. Joseph, MI. Mike was preceded in death by his son, Philip Ray Dumke in 2003; his brother Raymond Dumke in 1993, and by his parents, Michael Dumke, Sr. and Pauline (Huelsberg) Dumke.
