Gertrude (Trudy) Mae Smith, 90, of Greer, S.C. formally of Stevensville, MI passed away Friday, November 28, 2008 at NHC Mauldin Nursing , Greenville S. A private family Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday December 5, 2008 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road St. Joseph, officiated by her grandson Pastor Bill Zebell with burial to follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice. She married Leonard W. Smith on August 14, 1936, at Benton Harbor Congregational Church. Trudy was a charter member of the Berrien Kennel Club, Showing German Shepherds as well as Judging shows in the Midwest. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother. Trudy loved to sew and play golf. . She is survived by two sons Douglas (Mary) Smith of Shawnee KS, Dennis (Charlotte) Smith of Casper WY; two daughters Janice Miller of Bridgman MI, Nancy Strefling Lake Placid, FL; 16 grandchildren Gigi (Maurice) Mintken, Debbie Smith, Denise Siems, Scott (Tina) Smith, Tammy (Bill) Zebell, Gordon (Nancy) Miller, Julie (Geof) Glovsky, Tina (Ron) Sudderth, Sandi (Kevin) Kiel, Mark (Fran) Strefling, Chris (Cheryl) Strefling, Lisa (Todd) Smith, Susan Strefling, Sara (Jamie) Conklin, Jason Strefling, Katie (Micheal) Denton; 28 great-grandchildren; one brother Wally (Lois) Versaw Trudy was preceded in death by Husband Leonard on September 1, 2008; her parents Walter & Ilo Versaw; one granddaughter Nanette Strefling; one great-grandson Joshua Sudderth.
