Antoinette Caroline Schlender, 98, formally of St. Joseph, died Thursday, January 15, 2008 at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman. Friends may call from 11:00 to 12:00 Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 20 at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor, officiated by Rev. Martin Weigand and Rev. Richard Hennig with burial to follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice At Home or St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church where she was a life time member. She married Paul Schlender on May 7, 1933 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. She is survived by two sons, Blair (Joy) Schlender of Orlando FL and Paul (Berendina) Schlender of Hyde Park NY; eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul on January 17, 2001, two brothers Edgar Haase and Elmer Haase.
