Dent's Obituary

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery. Friends may call beginning at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Southshore Concert Band. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mr. Barnes was born February 27, 1922 in Augusta, MI to Dent & Nellie Mae (Donahue) Barnes. Dent served in both WWII in the South Pacific and in the Korean War as a member of the Army Signal Corps. He was awarded the Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, 3 Overseas Service Bars, one Service Stripe, and the Good Conduct Medal. After completing his military service, Dent returned to his employment at Western Electric Company in Kalamazoo. He was a member of The Telephone Pioneers of America , and The Theater Organ Assoc. of Michigan. Dent loved music and was a self-taught musician. Mr. Barnes is survived by his sister Betty Reuss of Stevensville; his brother Carl (Bernice) Barnes of Richmond, VA; two nephews-Dennis (Kristy) Reuss of Grand Junction, CO, Dale (Cindy) Reuss of Stevensville; and two nieces-Carole & Nancy Barnes of Richmond, VA.
