David H. Trachte passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 3, 2008.

At his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Fairplain Presbyterian Church, 210 W. Napier Ave., Benton Harbor, with Rev. Dr. John Munson officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Fairplain Presbyterian Church, Benton Harbor-Fairplain Lions Club or Hospice at Home. David was born to Arthur and Meta (Woerpel) Trachte on July 3, 1926 at Madison General Hospital in Madison WI. He graduated from Madison East High and attended the Madison College of Business. He served during the Korean War and served as a medic in the army, stationed in Germany.
After the service, he was involved in the family business – Trachte Metal Buildings, and in 1962 started the Trachte Sales and Construction Business which is still in operation. He also was the owner of several coin operated laundries and apartment houses in the city of Madison.
In 1977, he relocated to St. Joseph and was in the retail business for ten years. He then worked at Leath Furniture in sales until his retirement.
In 1962, he married the former Dorothy Thomas who survives. He was the proud father of two daughters, Heather and Heidi, who reside in Milwaukee. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers Robert and Don and two sisters Kathryn (Caine) and Rachel (Steensland). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
David was a member of the Benton Harbor-Fairplain Lions Club and enjoyed their camaraderie. Favorite pastimes were sailing, traveling and reading. He was a volunteer at the Soup Kitchen in Benton Harbor and helped to deliver food bags to the needy.
David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
