Edward G. Lewis, 79, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2008,
A private ceremony for the family will follow after the visitation at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Fr. William Jacobs officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00P.M. Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorials contributions can be made to Sarett Nature Center. Mr. Lewis was born January 17, 1929 in Muskegon, Michigan to Henry and Gladys (Morey) Lewis. He graduated from Muskegon High School and Michigan Tech University. After college, he came to St. Joseph to work as a Patent Engineer for Whirlpool Corporation for 32 years. Ed married Lois Folhbrook on October 24, 1953, in Muskegon Michigan.
Ed was a master canoe/kayak builder as well as a woodworker specializing in canoe paddles and snowshoes. He was an Explorer Scout leader for Troop 23 at the First Congregational Church. He was on the board at Sarett Nature Center for 24, years.
He is survived by his wife Lois Lewis of St. Joseph, daughter and son-in-law Anne and Eric Brown, and grandson Parker Edward Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harry.
