Robert F. Crossman, 83, of Sodus, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at his home.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Sodus, MI. Friends may call on Friday, October 3 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd; St. Joseph, MI. Memorial donations may be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Sodus or Hospice at Home or St. Joseph American Legion Post #163 Baseball Program. Robert was born on June 13, 1925 to Arthur D. and Margurete (Messal) Crossman in Benton Harbor, MI. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1943. Robert valiantly served his country in the United States Marine Corp from July 23, 1943- December 7 1945. after training in San Diego, He spent 24 of his 29 months in Guadacanal and Iwo Jima.. He retired from Whirlpool Corporation after working for 26 years and Dixon Beverage Company after 11 years. He married the love of his life, Patrica J. Dohm on April 17, 1971 in Coloma, MI. Together, they raised a son, Brian and a daughter, Beth. Robert was committee chairman of the St. Joseph American Legion for 33 years and involved with youth sports for 45 years. He was a member of the St. Joseph American Legion Post #163.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Patrica; his children, Brian J. (Annette) Ratter of Sodus, Beth Anne (Terry) Harris of Walkerton, IN; his grandchildren, Nicole, Chantal, Blake and Cheyenne Harris of Walkerton, IN, Jessica and Brian Ratter, II of Sodus; his brother, William (Erma) Crossman of St. Joseph, and his sister, Shirley Lo Presti (James) of Bridgman.
He is preceded in death by his brother and sisters, Arthur Crossman, Mary Jewell and Nancy Crossman.
