Stanley Dean Carr, 80, of Sister Lakes, Michigan passed away to be with His Lord and Savior on Friday, September 05, 2008 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd; St. Joseph, MI with Pastor Ron Rayon of Grace Christian Center officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 6 to 8 PM as well as 1 hour before the service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, Iowa at a later date. Stanley was born on July 8, 1928 to James and Alice (Dean) Carr in Benton Harbor, MI. Stanley graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1946. Stanley lived in Muskegon for 30 years. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree at Michigan State and two Master Degrees, one at Michigan State, the other at Western Michigan University. He married his wife Leona in New York City, New York on January 25, 1953. Together, they raised their children, David, Edward, Alice, Timothy, and Steven. Stanley studied at New York University and served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a meteorologist. He was professor at Muskegon Community College in which the Carr-Fles Planetarium was honorably named after him. After retiring from teaching, Stanley was the former pastor of New Harvest Church in Watervliet. Stanley’s passions include gardening, camping, fishing and astronomy.
Stanley is survived by his wife of 55 years, Leona (Sheredy) Carr; his children, Edward (Connie) Carr of Evans, GA, Alice (David) Schlichtemeier of Spencer, IA, Timothy (Barbara) Carr of Port Byron, IL, Steven (Rebecca) Carr of Houghton, MI; a daughter-in-law, Lenka Carr of The Czech Republic; 17 grandchildren; 1 great grand child; a brother, Kenneth (Dottie) Carr of Sister Lakes, MI, a sister, Carol (James) Zoerner of Walled Lake, MI and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his son, David A Carr and his brother, Richard Carr.
