Arthur “Art” Frederick Klug, 84 went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 1, 2008 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.
Friends may call from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 4333 Cleveland Ave. Stevensville on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM; officiated by Rev. Phillip Quardokus. Entombment to follow at North Shore Memory Garden with military rites conducted. Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church. Art was born in Glendora, Mi on December 14, 1923 to Chas. “Carl” and Ernestena (Zielke) Klug. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1941 and entered the United States Army on December 12, 1942 and was Honorably Discharged on February 10, 1946. Art married Donna Post on April 6, 1946 at the Trinity Lutheran Parsonage by Pastor Nuechterlein. Art and Donna enjoyed 62 wonderful years together. He was employed by Whirlpool Corp. before becoming the founder of Glenlord Lumber Co., which later became Glenlord Home Center. Art was a member of Home Builders Assoc., AMVETS, St. Joseph-Benton Harbor Rotary Club and Lutheran Layman League.
Art is survived by his wife Donna of St. Joseph; a daughter Kathy (Dale) Garlow of Laguna Nigel, CA; two sons Thomas (Nancy) Klug Okemos, MI, and Kirt (Christine) Klug of Eau Claire, MI; eight grandchildren – Jami (Bob) Bassett, Joelle (Dale) Schwope, Michelle Robinson, Thomas Klug II, Christopher (Lisa) Klug, Jeffrey Klug, Caitlin Klug, Colin Klug; three step-grandchildren Michael (Tracy) Christensen, Paul (Stephanie) Christensen, Sarah Bailey, five step great-grandchildren DaKoda, Emmalee and Ava Christensen; Dax Christensen, and Elani Walton; a brother Charles (Lenora) Klug of Miami FL; a sister Loretta (Paul) Hiemstra of Lawrence, MI.
Preceded in death by his parents, Chas. “Carl and Ernestena Klug, a daughter Vicki Robinson, a brother Richard Klug, and a sister Arlene Metz.
