Marian D. Sauer

Marian (Virkus) Sauer, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away on September 8, 2008, at Whitcomb Towers. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Dr. J.O. Hosler of Napier Parkview Baptist officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday just prior to the service, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guestbook may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Marian was born March 28, 1916, in Benton Harbor to Emil and Tilly (Schmanski) Virkus. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School. Marion married Leo Heinrich Sauer in Bridgman, MI on October 29, 1944. Marian was a member of the Napier Parkview Baptist Church and loved spending time with her family. Marian is survived by her husband Leo; three daughters – Vicki (Stuart) Welham of St. Joseph, Beverly (Brian) Bock of Traverse City, MI, and Kathy (Raymond) Hisaw of St. Joseph; Four grandchildren – Jill, Ian, Drew, and Megan; and one sister- Ethel Spitzke of St. Joseph. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Diane Sauer; brothers Delbert Virkus and Walter Virkus; and sister Irene Virkus.
