Lena Abruscato

Lena (Antonetta) Abruscato, 91, formerly of Riverside, passed away on August 24, 2008, at the Sunset Assisted Living Home, Benton Harbor. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 555 Delaware, Benton Harbor, with Fr. Dan Doctor officiating. A luncheon will be served immediately afterward at the church. Burial will take place on Friday, September 5 at 10:00 A.M. in Calvary Cemetery, Benton Harbor. Friends may call Monday, September 1, 2008, from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. with the rosary being recited at 4:30 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Lena was born in Chicago on October 22, 1916, to Anthony (Tony) and Katherine (Genaldi) Sciro. She lived in Benton Harbor prior to moving to St. Joseph. She had lived in St. Joseph for 20 plus years, a city she always loved, especially walking to all of the shops and meeting her friends for coffee. When you’d talk with her, you knew she had a spirit of adventure. When she was younger, she would talk about how one day she would like to fly in an airplane. Let us remember that Lena had a enjoyment for life. She loved singing and dancing. She always had a love of people, and her family and friends were her most important things in life. She is survived by her two sons, Jerome Abruscato and Ralph Lee Abruscato. She was grandmother to Nina and great-grandmother to Paige-Nicole and Aaron. Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Sam (Salvatore) Abruscato, and daughter, Sally Abruscato. Her ashes will be interred next to her daughter.
