Martha Shults

Martha Shults, 86, of Portage, MI formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away on Tuesday, August 05, 2008 at Tendercare Portage Nursing Home, in Portage, MI. A private family Celebration of Life Service will be held at Chapel of the Pines at North Shore Memory Gardens, 5027 M-63 North, Coloma, MI with Pastor Anthony Fields officiating. Martha was born on February, 13, 1922 to Henry and Olga (Meisler) Hirsch in Benton Harbor. She was born and raised in Benton Harbor, MI for most of her life. She met the love of her life, the former Walter Shults and married on October 7, 1939 in Benton Harbor. Martha was employed as a cashier at National Foods Store and owned and operated a farm with her husband. Together, they raised two daughters, Dolores and Lynette and a son, Edward. Martha enjoyed golfing and camping but her family was her life. She is survived by her children; Dolores George of Portage, MI, Lynette (Jon) Konya of Coloma, MI, Edward (Mary) Shults of Coloma, MI; six grand-children; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry (Bev) Hirsch of St. Joseph, and sisters, Lydia Bruder of Missouri, and Caroline (Otto) Seraphin of Maryland. Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Walter on February 26, 1986, her parents, Henry and Olga Hirsch and brothers and sister, Edward, Evelyn, Ervin and Theodore.
