Nancy Carol Johnston

St. Joseph, MI – Nancy C. Johnston, 65, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008, in her home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 6, 2008, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, in St. Joseph, with Pastor Scott Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Stevensville. Visitation with the family will be held Thursday evening, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and additionally from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Nancy was born August 2, 1942, in Benton Harbor to Bert & Gladys Hoffman. She married Russell Johnston on March 26, 1964, in Benton Harbor. Nancy worked for the Whirlpool Corporation for over thirty years prior to her retirement. She loved bowling, golf, and “visiting the casinos.” She also enjoyed shopping and working word-search puzzles in her spare time. Nancy was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was a “generous person and friend to all.” Nancy was known by her family as “a loving mother and grandmother” who particularly cherished time spent with her grandchildren – particularly watching her grandchildren’s sporting events. Nancy is survived by her children, Tina (Doug) Hartzler of Bridgman and David (Jackie) Goodwin of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Cody & Katie Hartzler, Erin & Carrie Hartzler, Mekenzie & Brandon Goodwin, and Brittney and Carly Enders; great-granddaughter, Cali Allen; sisters, Jackie Gerlach and Marilyn (Rush) Whitaker; brothers, Gene(Shirley), Harold(Norma), and James (Marylyn)Hoffman; long-time friend, Bonnie Probst; and by her several loved nieces and nephews. In addition her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Johnston and by her brothers, John and Richard Hoffman.
