George's Obituary

George E. Bowers, 64, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 15, 2008, at his home. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at St. Joseph First United Methodist Church, 3003 Leco Ct. in St. Joseph. Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday with a memory sharing time at 7:00 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Berrien County Cancer Service or Hospice at Home. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mr. Bowers was born June 11, 1943 in Benton Harbor to George & Helen (Schiddel) Bowers. On March 2, 1968 he married Marcia Heyns in St. Joseph. George was a Superintendent of Streets and Sanitation for the Public Works of St. Joseph. George was a member of St. Joseph First United Methodist Church for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed being a handyman, angler, hunter, taxidermist and gardener. George was a support to his wife Marcia, a father and best friend to his children Mark & Jodi, a side-kick to his grand-daughter Lilli and a buddy to his grandson Cooper. Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife Marcia Bowers; his mother Helen Bowers; one son Mark (Heidi) Bowers; one daughter Jodi (Shane) Price; and two grandchildren Lilli & Cooper Price; and many friends he called his family. Mr. Bowers was preceded in death by his father George E. Bowers.
