Cathryn's Obituary

Cathryn A. Steinke, 80, of Saint Joseph, unexpectedly passed away on Monday morning, April 28, 2008 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Her Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at ll:00 AM at Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, 3100 Veronica Drive, St. Joseph, MI with Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Friends may call on the family, Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd; St. Joseph. Per Cathryn’s wishes, she has donated her organs. A private committal service will be at Riverview Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, The Easter Seals or The Humane Society of S.W. Miss Steinke was born on November 21, 1927 in St. Joseph to Gustav and Ruth (Rutkoske) Steinke. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1945. Cathryn was employed with V.M Corporation in Benton Harbor until they closed and as an electronics inspector for LECO Corp before retiring in 1989. Cathryn was an active volunteer with Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ working at their annual dinner last week. She was a long time member of American Legion Auxiliary 163 Unit, VM Old Timers and “Mall Walkers”. Cathryn was also involved with her 1945 high school class reunions including a monthly luncheon with classmates. Cathryn was an avid sports fan especially of the University of Michigan, where she had season tickets to their football games for 31 years. She enjoyed working in her yard, walking, traveling to all 50 states and photography. Cathryn is survived by her siblings, James Steinke, Agnes Steinke, Carolyn Ziemer, John (Ruth) Steinke all of St. Joseph, ten nieces and nephews, fifteen grand nieces and nephews and five great grand nephews and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Ruth.
