Herman's Obituary
Herman Karnowsky, 86, formerly of Benton Harbor & St. Joseph, of Coconut Creek, Florida passed away April 10, 2008.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 9:30 A.M. at Temple Beth El Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Arrangements are entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home. Those wishing to send a condolence message online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com
Herman was born October 7, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois to Abe & Celia (Goodman) Karnowsky. He grew up in Benton Harbor and worked with his brothers at United Auto Sales and later at Martin Brothers. He was a veteran of WWII and a Mason. In 1951 he married Dolores Alterman. Herman was a long time member of B’nai Shalom Temple where he was very active for many years. Herman had a lot of fans and friends and won people over with his warm smile and wonderful sense of humor. He loved to read newspapers, watch sports on tv, talk politics, walk, swim, cook & bake, do things with and for his family and friends, and had a love for life.
Herman is survived by Dolores, loving wife of 57 years; sister, Ilene Martin; brother, Melvin Karnowsky; children, Abby Melnick, Debby Glick (Barry); grandchildren, Aaron & Hilary Glick, Jason & Caryn Winberg; and nephews, Abe & Steve Martin. He was preceded in death by his brother Sam Karnowsky.
