William's Obituary

William Barry Jr., 82, of Benton Harbor passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Caretel Village in St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 555 Delaware in Benton Harbor with Fr. William J. Jacobs, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Monday, March 17, 2008, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with the rosary recited at 7:30 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. William was born December 4, 1925, in Benton Harbor, Michigan to William & Helene (Lutter) Barry, Sr. He graduated from St. John Catholic High School in 1943, then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 assigned to the USS Earl V. Johnson Destroyer Escort. After returning from the service, he attended Michigan State University. On November 5, 1949, William married Lillyan (Hemming) Barry in St. John Catholic Church in Benton Harbor. William retired from Whirlpool Corporation in 1984, following 30 years of service and was the Manager of R & E Accounting at his retirement. William was a member of the Benton Harbor Elk’s Club and the Whirlpool Old Timers. In his spare time, he enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with is family and grandchildren. William was also very proud of his Irish heritage. Mr. Barry is survived by his wife, Lillyan Barry of Benton Harbor; two sons; Michael (Linda) Barry of Traverse City, MI and John (Treasa) Barry of Orange, CT; one daughter, Patricia (William) Lint of Saugatuck, MI; one brother, Patrick (Bernice) Barry of Benton Harbor; one sister, Lou Ann Agens of Stevensville; six grand children: Amy C. Drake, Adam (Lisa) Drake, Rachel Barry, Sarah Barry, Shawn Barry and Meghan Barry. Mr. Barry was preceded in death by his parents William & Helene (Lutter) Barry, Sr.
