Mary S. Lucker

Mary (Stroba) Lucker, 92, of St. Joseph passed away April 8, 2008 at Caretel Inns of St. Joseph. Mary was born December 15, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois to Frank and Bessie (Bures) Stroba. Her mother died in 1918 and her father married Rose Blaha who raised Mary and her brother, George, as her own children. The family moved to Stevensville and established a farm. Mary attended Evans School in St. Joseph, Harrison High School in Chicago, and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1934. She then graduated from Moler Beauty College in Chicago. She worked as a beautician in Lakeside until her marriage in 1936 to Robert E. Lucker. Together they farmed in Lincoln Township for over 50 years. Mary enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and attending the activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She derived much joy from her family. Survivors includes her daughters: Roberta (Robert) Luttke of Stevensville, Mary Stegman of Missouri City TX, and Christine (William) Lockwitz of St. Joseph; her grandchildren: Jan (John) Zilke of Benton Harbor, James Lausch and Robert Lausch of St. Joseph, Steven Stegman of Benton Harbor, Angela Stegman of Missouri City TX, Jeannine Stegman of Marietta GA, Katherine (Mark) DeMercurio of Las Vegas NV and Sarah Lockwitz of Hamden CT; and her great grandchildren: Eli Zilke, Issac Lausch, Isaiah Lausch and Sierra Stegman. Also surviving is her sister, Frances Di Carlo of Florida. Preceding Mary in death were her parents, her brother, George Stroba, and her twin sisters, Dorothy Stroba and Adeline Dougherty. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 11, 2008 at 11 am at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville.
