Virgil ‘Dick’ McClure Sr., 87, was born May 9, 1920, in Benton Harbor, MI, and passed away on February 11, 2008, in Clermont, FL after a long illness A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 24, 2008, at St. Johns Catholic Church, with Father Daniel Doctor officiating. Burial will follow at Cavalry Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Catholic Church or North Berrien County Senior Center. Those wishing to send a condolence message online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Arrangement entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home Dick was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School and married the former Mary Jane Broderick on Dec. 11, 1943, and lived in Hagar Township, where they raised four children on the family farm until 1987, when they moved to Watervliet. Dick and Mary moved to Florida in 2005. Dick was a lifelong resident of Hagar Township, where they owned a fruit farm on Maple Lane. Dick drove a truck for Pyramid Oil and Michigan Fruit Canners for many years. He managed a receiving station for Michigan Fruit Canners as well as a distributorship for Smith Douglas Chemical Company. Dick is survived by three children, Jayne (Ron) Johannesen of Clermont, Virgil (Gerry) McClure, Jr. of Stevensville and Charlene Farina of Bridgman; one daughter-in-law, Sandy McClure of Coloma; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in June of 2007; their son, James; their granddaughter, Heather; three brothers; one sister; and son-in-law, Ciro Farina.
