Ernestine Delores Buchanan

Ernestine Delores Buchanan, 73, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2008 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. A Service of Home Going will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday March 1, 2008 at New Bethel Baptist, 2360 Townline Rd. Benton Harbor with Rev. Milton McAfee officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Ernestine attended Booker T Washington High School in Tennessee. She married Willie Buchanan in Benton Harbor where they spent 18 wonderful years together. Ernestine worked for Whirlpool as a food service Manager for many years. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist for 55 years and also devoted her time working with various organizations in the church. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, cooking, bowling, and collecting elephants. Ernestine is survived by her husband Willie Buchanan of Benton Harbor; one twin sister Betty Smith of Benton Harbor; one son Harold Hampton of Benton Harbor; two daughters Linda Yarbrough of Wisconsin and Brenda Buchanan of Wisconsin; eight sisters Leola Cole of Benton Harbor, Margie Simmonds of Benton Harbor, Vivian Wade of Benton Harbor, Dorothy Walker of Detroit, Debra Hardin of Detroit, Diane Hardin of Detroit, Angie Hardin of Detroit, and Joyce DeFrance of Benton Harbor; three brothers Clarence Hardin Jr. of Benton Harbor, Larry Hardin of Detroit, and Derrick Hardin of Detroit; Many special God Children, grand and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded by one son Todd Hampton Sr.; one sister Ollie Belcher; and one brother Frank Hardin. The repass will be held at the Bobo Brazil Armory, 472 Cass Street, Benton Harbor, MI.
