Susan's Obituary
Susan E. Weckwerth, 57, of Eau Claire, went to meet her Lord & Savior, Monday, March 10, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota following a long illness.
A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1965 Broadway Ave., Benton Harbor with Pastor Paul Naumann officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Bainbridge Township. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or to the House of Compassion-Rochester, MN. Mrs. Weckwerth was born June 4, 1950 in Benton Harbor to Stanley & Alberta (Hildebrand) Ketelhut. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1968 and from Twin City Beauty College. On April 19, 1969, she married Donald Weckwerth in Benton Harbor. Susan was a stylist at Plaza Beauty Salon for several years. Following, she was employed in the bakery at Jewel Food Store in Benton Harbor, leaving as assistant manager after 8 years of employment. Susan went on to assist her husband in the operation of their family fruit farm in Watervliet until she was disabled in 1989. Susan was known for her cake baking & decorating. She made many beautiful wedding cakes & desserts for family & friends. Most of all, she was known for her selflessness, always putting others before herself, no matter what her own situation might be. Susan lived for her family, especially her grandchildren. She looked forward to any time that was spent with family for holidays, birthdays or reunions. Susan was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she participated on the Prayer Chain; and served as a counselor at the Pregnancy Counseling Center. In her spare time, Susan enjoyed reading, craft painting, and traveling.
Susan is survived by her husband Donald; her children-Stanley (Lavila) Weckwerth of Watervliet, Steven (Kirsten) Weckwerth of Watervliet, Pamela (Leif) Larson of Delton, MI; seven grandchildren-David & Luke Larson, Grace, Daniel, & Susannah Weckwerth, Christopher & Katie Weckwerth; her parents Stanley & Alberta Ketelhut of Benton Harbor; two brothers-Michael (Judy) Ketelhut of Eau Claire, MI, Ronald (Cheryl) Ketelhut of Watervliet; her sister-in-law-Carol (Raymond) Shubinski of Kansas City, KS; two nephews-Thomas & Darren Ketelhut; two nieces-Jennifer (Patrick) McDonnell, Julie Shubinski; a great nephew Dylan McDonnell; and her special canine companion Molly.
