Hildegard G. Becker

Hildegard Gertrude Betty Becker, 97, and a former resident of St. Joseph, died peacefully Tuesday evening. For the past 10 years she was looked after by the good people at Jordan’s Nursing Home and visited there by her friends. As expected, she missed her early active years. Hildegard immigrated to Chicago at the age of 19 and worked in Chicago before marrying Carl Becker, a neighbor from their homeland of East Prussia. They moved to Lincoln Avenue, St Joseph with their three young children in 1944. Hildegarde was known and admired for her love of gardening and the baked goods she served at afternoon coffee gatherings. Her family included her son Joachim; daughter-in-law Umeno; two daughters, Margareta and Dorothea; six grand children- Lise, Nicklaus, Maxwell, Arthur, Julia, and Elias; and sister Irmgarde Lange of Germany. Local arrangements are by Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, St. Joseph. There will be no service or visitation. A memorial service will be arranged at a later date.
