Wanda B. Slowik, 88, of Benton Harbor was mercifully taken to be with her Lord on Wednesday, December 19, 2007. She was surrounded by immediate family and resting comfortably in her home at the time of passing. The family is planning a memorial service at the Starks and Menchinger Funeral Home, St. Joseph, on Saturday, January 5 at 1:00 P.M. Memorials may be made in her name to the American Red Cross or to Hospice at Home of Berrien County. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Wanda was born on July 16, 1919 in East Chicago, Indiana to the late Louis and Anna Jamroz. On January 30, 1944, Wanda married the late Walter A Slowik. They formed a bond and a team that started Slowik Refrigeration of Benton Harbor while raising three children. She and Walter were active and giving participants in the community. As her grown children left home, Wanda began a long record of volunteer work with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, the American Red Cross blood drives and Hospice at Home. Through her many pursuits, Wanda developed a large and close circle of friends, with whom she enjoyed many different activities. Her three children include Dean (Sandra) Slowik of Benton Harbor, Robert (Karen) Slowik of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Ann Slowik of Wayne, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, and a sister, Karol Dragomir, of Stevensville.
