Andrew Peirce

Andrew W. (Andy) Peirce, of St Joseph, died on Saturday March 14th at Caretel Inns in St Joseph. A private “Celebration of Life” service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 20th at First Congregational U.C.C., 2001 Niles Ave, St Joseph. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19th from 5: until 7:p.m. at Starks-Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in memory of Andy to the SJ/BH Rotary Foundation or Sarett Nature Center. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book on line may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Andy was born to Clarence and Agnes (Blanchard) Peirce on July 5, 1914 in Ithaca NY. He was a 1936 graduate, with a mechanical engineering degree, from Cornell University where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and also lettered three times as a tailback on Cornell’s football team. He spent his entire working career with Clark Equipment Co. Andy was a former board member of Gateway, in Berrien Springs, a member and past president of the Fairplain School Board, a past Commodore of the St Joseph River Yacht Club, a proud member of SJ/BH Rotary Club and a 50 year member of the former Berrien Hills Country Club. He was also a member of several professional society’s. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jane Healy Peirce, his second wife Harriet (Peggy) Mackin Peirce and his brother Allen. Andy is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Bingham Peirce, who he married on February 27, 2003, his son Robert (Kathryn) of St Joseph, and two daughters, Barbara (Jerry) Radde of Huntsville, Alabama and Marcia (Timothy) Snyder of Helena, Montana. Also surviving are five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren as well as his sister Virginia Richards of Scottsdale, AZ.
