Carl's Obituary

Carl Robert Burg, 81, of St. Joseph, departed this life on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at The Willows in St. Joseph with his family at his bedside. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Thursday at the First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph with Rev. David Culp officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial of his ashes will take place at a later date at Hickory Bluff Cemetery. Carl was born November 21, 1926 in LaHarpe, Illinois to Raymond & Analu (Nelson) Burg. He proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. Carl graduated from Purdue University in 1950 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. On June 24, 1950, he married Elizabeth Crow in Benton Harbor. Carl was employed by Whirlpool Corporation, retiring as Facilities Manager in 1988 after 38 years. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed woodworking, stamp collecting, and genealogy. He loved playing with his good friend “Cat”, a stray he adopted. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather & brother. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Carl is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Beth” Burg; his children-Susan (David) Bailey of Stevensville, Cynthia Eisenhart of Stevensville, Catherine (Chris) Evans of South Jordan, Utah, John (Kristin) Burg of Stevensville; seven grandchildren-Michael & Amy Eisenhart, Jared, Benjamin & Sarah Evans, Eric & Anna Burg; his sister Mary Lou (Robert) Murphy of Traverse City, MI; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
