Jo Kristine Smith

Jo Kristine Smith, 58, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Visitation is from 6:00 -8:00 P.M., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Jo’s name may be made to Van Andel Research Institute Transitional Medicine Program. Those wishing to send a condolence message online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Jo was born on April 18, 1949 in Benton Harbor, to Bill and Edna (Grau) McGath. She graduated from Trinity Lutheran Elementary, and in 1967 she graduated from St. Joseph High School. On August 9, 1969, she married Stephen H. Smith. Jo taught ceramics for twenty years out of her home, Jo’s House of Ceramics. She was also Assistant Manager at Hollywood Video. She was outgoing, fun-loving, and enjoyed being with family and friends. Jo loved her grandchildren. Jo is survived by her husband Steve Smith; two sons, Jason (Marcie) Smith and Joshua Smith, both of St. Joseph; two grandchildren Cody and Cole; her mother Edna McGath of St. Joseph; sister Sharon (John) Matthews of St. Joseph, and a brother Mike (Barbara) McGath of Benton Harbor. She was preceded in death by her father Bill McGath in 1991.
