Robert's Obituary

Robert “Bob” Mix, 90, of Benton Harbor, passed away suddenly on February 21, 2008 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life visitation and service will be held from 3 to 7 pm Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd; St. Joseph. The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Veterans will fold and present the flag towards the end of the service. A spring time burial will occur at Rush Lake in Hartford, MI at a later date. Memorials may be made out to The American Heart Association or Silver Beach Carousel Society. Friends may send the family a condolence message or sign the guest book on-line at www.starks-menchinger.com. Bob was born on January 22, 1918 in Hartford, MI to R.C. “John” and Sarah Mix. He was a painter with Kay Wood Products in Benton Harbor until retiring in 1980. Bob served in the U.S. Army during WWII. While serving his country, he was wounded in the leg in Italy and received a Purple Heart as well as several other metals of honor. Bob was an Elder in the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi tribe. Bob even fixed roller coasters at Silver Beach. He lived at Lakeview Terrace for 15 years. He was seen to frequent Dino’s, Bob Evans and Big Boy restaurants conjuring up friendships with the wait staff. He was mild and kind towards anyone with the opportunity of knowing him. Bob took care of his sister, Cecelia for many years and she adored him. Bob loved watching the Cubs, reading the South Bend Tribune and working on crossword puzzles. He had a special friend of 40 years in Marilyn Bailey whom he had met over a piece of cake. Community nurse, Rebecca Price R.N. provided compassionate care for Bob over the years. Bob is survived by his sister, Cecelia Tibbs of Watervliet; special family friend, Yvonne “Petey” Boehm of Benton Harbor; Nephews, John and Clarence White, Duane Tibbs; nieces, Cindy Tibbs, Marge Moody and Midge Holloman; many grand nephews and nieces as well as many friends.
