Opal O. Jackson

Opal O. Jackson, 85, of Benton Harbor, went to meet her Lord & Savior on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Millburg Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home. Mrs. Jackson was born December 13, 1922 in Hayti, Missouri to Claude & Edith (Wilson) Quertermous. On October 23, 1937, she married Cecil “Paul” Jackson in Caruthersville, Missouri. Opal was employed at Saluto Foods in Benton Harbor, retiring in 1984 after 15 plus years of service. She most of all, cherished the time she was able to spend with her family. Mrs. Jackson is survived by her daughters-Faye (Charley) Mott of Benton Harbor, Jean (William) Ellis of Wardell, MO, Debbie (Wayne) Tipton of Benton Harbor; five grandchildren-Jeffery (Cindy) Mott of Benton Harbor, Karen (Frank) Overly of Denver, CO, Vickie (Steve) Hagana of St. Louis, MO, Sue (Jimmy) Moreno of San Antonio, TX, Tony (Amanda) Tipton of Benton Harbor; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers-Charley (Lucille) Quertermous of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Willard (Myrtle) Quertermous of Coloma; two sisters-Doris Staggs of Florence, AL, Cricket (Bill) Wells of Benton Harbor; and two special nieces-Reshonda Wells & Kiley Dorgelo. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul of 65 years on December 5, 2002, by three sisters-Gracie, Pearl, & Violet, and her brother Howard.
