Lucille Slosson, 78, of Benton Harbor, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2007, at her home after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Confer. A private burial will be held Wednesday at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Saturday and 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Starks & Menchinger Family funeral home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Gilda’s Club, First Church of God, Hospice at Home or Berrien County Cancer Service. Mrs. Slosson was born February 12, 1929 in Waltonville, IL to John & Mina (Johnson) Sigwerth. Lucille moved from Waltonville IL to Benton Harbor with her mother when she was a teenager. She worked at ‘VM’ in Benton Harbor prior to her marriage to Frank Slosson on September 23, 1950. Frank and Lucille ran a ‘Drive In’ on Main Street in Benton Harbor, which they later sold after their first child. Lucille was a homemaker and raised five children. Later, Frank and Lucille built and ran ‘Slosson Party Mart’ in 1969 on Napier Avenue, which she sold in 1989 after Frank’s death. Lucille retired and spent time with her children, participated in Bible Fellowship Studies (BFS), and attended First Church of God. Lucille loved summertime when she could spend time outdoors caring for her flowers. Lucille also enjoyed taking walks with her dog Snowflake at Riverview park where she met other dog lovers, who became her friends.
Mrs. Slosson is survived by her two daughters Gail (Brian) Roush of St. Joseph; Pamela Slosson of Elmhurst IL; two sons Frank Slosson Jr. of Benton Harbor; and Dean (Kelly) Slosson Taylor MI; three grandchildren Christina Meek of Watervliet MI, Aaron Larkin of Dunwoody GA, and Gwendolyn Koniuchowsky of Boca Raton FL; In addition to her parents she is preceded by her husband Frank Slosson; one daughter Sharon Larkin; two brothers Delbert Sigwerth and Stanley Sigwerth; and one sister Ruby Sigwerth.
