Irwin N. “Bud” Moniot, 72, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2007, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor following a courageous battle with leukemia (AML). A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, in St. Joseph. Dr. Chad Sharkey and Scott Moniot will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice. He was one of two sons born to Albert & Mildred Moniot. The family moved to Southwest Michigan in the early 1940’s. Bud was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph High School. He was united in marriage with Gail Mundt on August 4, 1962 in St. Joseph. Together they had one daughter, Shelly. Bud was in the U.S. Army for 6 years and also served as a licensed captain and Flotilla Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard retiring after 20 years. In his pastime, Bud enjoyed spending time outdoors particularly hunting and fishing. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Berrien County Sportsman Club. He worked for many years in sales and sales management, newspapers, business systems, boats, and sporting goods. Family relationships were an extremely important part of his life and he especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren, Halee and Ethan Sharkey. Additionally, Bud made many friendships over the years through his contacts with friends, customers, and people he met along the way. Bud is survived by his wife Gail of 45 years; daughter, Shelly (Chad) Sharkey of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Halee and Ethan Sharkey; and by his nieces and nephews, Scott, Richard, David, and Danielle Moniot. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his brother, Lorne “Butch” Moniot.
