Helen Sylvia Schulz Roland, 79, of Stevensville, passed away Thursday, September 06, 2007, at her home.
A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held at 11:30 A.M. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2673 W. John Beers Rd. in Stevensville with Rev. Gerald Schroer & Rev. Jonathan Kruschel officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Mrs. Roland was born August 29, 1928 in Phillips, Wisconsin to Frank & Bohumila (Novack) Strackany. She graduated from Phillips High School in 1946. On November 27, 1948, she married Carl L. Schulz in Stevensville. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1985. On June 24, 1989, she married James O. Roland in Stevensville. He preceded her in death on September 20, 2005. Sylvia worked for Montgomery Ward in downtown St. Joseph for many years in the 1950’s. She retired from Shepherd Products in St. Joseph in 1991 after 18 years of employment. Sylvia was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Stevensville American Legion Post #568 Auxiliary, Friendship Club, and a volunteer for Discover Stevensville Days. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, tending to her vegetable garden, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Roland is survived by her daughters-Gloria (James) Semala of Westville, IN, Joanne (Douglas) Choate of Stevensville; three grandchildren-Laura Semala and her fiance Eric Wozniak, Joseph Semala, Susan (Brian) Graczyk; two great grandchildren-Luke & Alison Graczyk; and a special friend William Vorel of Bridgman. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
