Edwin Ellsworth, 91, of St. Joseph, passed away June 27, at Caretel Inn of Royalton.Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Funeral Home; with Rev. David Corban Sr. officiated and burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery. Ed was born May 8, 1916 in Oxford, IN; the son of Oscar & Nettie (Jarvis) Ellsworth. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1934. He married Dorothy Jane Fisher on June 17, 1940 in Michigan City and settled. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Upon his return in 1948, Ed and Dorothy Jane moved to the “Big Brown House” on Lincoln Ave in St. Joseph where they raised their family and live for 58 years. Ed spent his last months living at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman enjoying the company of old and new friends. Ed worked for Prudential Life Insurance Company and the Heritage Clothing Store in St. Joseph. He was a member of St. Joseph Mason lodge and a life member of the St. Joseph Elks and a member of the First Congregational Church of Benton Harbor for over 60 years. Survived by a son Ronald ( Nell) Ellsworth of Baroda; two daughters Kay (Charles) Conway of Lakeland FL. and Jane Ann (Gordon) Sironen of Grand Rapids; four grandchildren and several grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several great step grandchildren; and a sister Evelyn ( Charles) Hartman of Benton Harbor.He was preceded in death by his of wife Dorothy on October 6, 2003.
