Ellen L. Brown

Ellen L. Brown, 86, of Stevensville, passed away Saturday evening, October 13, 2007, in her home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at 1:00 P.M. at Kerley-Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, in St. Joseph, with Pastor Dean Pickett officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Garden in Coloma. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Ellen was born on May 16, 1921, in Roellen, Tennessee. She was one of ten children born to Tollie and Lila Nail. On March 29, 1966, she married William Brown in Littleton, Colorado. Ellen worked for Michigan Fruit Canners for many years. She was known by her friends and family as a meticulously “neat and organized person” with “never a hair out of place.” Additionally Ellen was an excellent cook. Her favorite pastime was crocheting and knitting. She and her husband also enjoyed traveling. In the past few years, Ellen was a morning regular at Big Boy in Stevensville for breakfast where all the friends she made amongst the customers and waitresses greeted her with a friendly greeting and a smile. Ellen is survived by her siblings, Ray (Nancy) Nail of Benton Harbor, Lala Crawford of Thornton, CO, Phyllis (Odell) Wheeler of Cahokia, IL, Margaret Crawford of Kennett, MO, and Jerry (Jean) Nail of French Lick, IN; and by many fond nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Herschell Williams and William Brown; and by her siblings, Everett, John, Jimmy, and Martha Nail.
