Mary Jane McClure

Mary Jane McClure, 84, previously of Benton Harbor, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Celebration Hospital in Clermont, Fla., after a brief illness. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor on Tuesday, June 19, at 10 a.m., with burial following at Calvary Cemetery in Benton Harbor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to North Berrien Senior Center, Coloma Township, or to St. John’s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor. Mary was born in Benton Township on Oct. 2, 1922, to William and Mary (O’Brien) Broderick. She married Virgil “Dick” McClure on Dec. 11, 1943. Besides her husband, Mary is survived by one son, Virgil (Gerry) McClure; two daughters – Jayne (Ron) Johannesen and Charlene (Ciro) Farina; daughter-in-law, Sandra McClure; sister-in-law, Geraldine Broderick; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet. She was a long-standing member of the North Shore Thursday Club. Mary and her husband Dick were local fruit farmers from 1943 to 1987 in Hagar Township. She was active on local bowling leagues for many years. Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and looked forward to family get togethers. She always had yearly parties with her many neighbors and friends. In May 2005, she and her husband moved to Clermont, Fla., where they lived with her daughter, Jayne and husband. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary (O’Brien) Broderick; son, James; brother, Edward Broderick; and two sisters, Agnes Broderick and Margaret Cheevers; and a granddaughter, Heather McClure.
