Nona's Obituary

Nona Joanne Froystad, 55, of St. Joseph, Michigan passed away the evening of July 21, 2007 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, with burial to follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may call on the family from 5:30 – 7:00PM, Wednesday, immediately prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Nona’s name to the American Cancer Society or Berrien County Cancer Service. Nona was born in Dayton, Ohio on October 27, 1951 to Sigvald & Josephine (Coffee) Froystad. She graduated from Bethel Local High School in Tipp City, Ohio. During her high school summer breaks Nona would come to Michigan and work. She fell in love with the area and moved to Michigan after graduating. Nona worked for the county of Berrien for 35 years in the Printing Microfilm and Records Department. For the last 11 years she has been an active participant in the Relay for Life, as well as a blood donor for the American Red Cross. She was a frequent donator to several local charitable organizations. Nona enjoyed helping family and friends in the completion of a variety of projects. She especially enjoyed being outdoors and working with her hands. She was known for her love of animals and was always willing to care for the pets of friends when the need arose.
Nona, a loving daughter, sister and aunt was preceded in death by her parents Sigvald and Josephine Froystad. She is survived by six siblings – Barbara (James) Hobbs of Cincinnati OH, John (Lee) Froystad of Glenville, N.C., Terry (Mike) Hodges of Cincinnati OH, Ruth (Gary) Ingram, of Durand, IL; Roger Froystad of Mondovi, WI, Robert (Sandy) Froystad of Mondovi, WI. She was the loving aunt to Brian, Jason, Chris, Bradley, Josie and Barnabas. Nona will be sadly missed by her family and her many loving and loyal friends.
