Warren Edward Gast, 76, of St. Joseph, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Caretel Inns of Royalton.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00A.M., Monday, April 16, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 609 Court St., St. Joseph, with Pastor Tom Batsky officiating. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Visitation is from 2:00P.M. to 5:00P.M., Sunday, April 15, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Warren was born March 28, 1931, in St. Joseph, to William and Martha (Heyn) Gast. He grew up in Bridgman, moving to St. Joseph where he attended St. Joseph High School and was a member of the basketball team, taking the State Championship in 1948. Warren graduated from U of M, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering in 1953. On January 22, 1952, Warren married Doris Lou Boonstra in Ann Arbor, MI. Warren was the CEO of Gast manufacturing. He was active in the community and had many interests. He was a member of the golf team at U of M, he was the voice announcing the Western Amateur over WSJM radio station, a member of the Lake Michigan College Foundation Board, St. Joseph Rotary Club, Point O’ Woods, Lakeland Hospital Foundation Board, and St. Joseph City Commissioner.
Warren is survived by his wife Lou Gast; sons Warren Gast, Jr., of Chicago, IL, Brian Gast of Ann Arbor, and Kevin “KC” (Juli) Gast of Benton Harbor; 5 grandchildren, Matthew (Missy) Gast, Bethany Gast, Christopher Gast, Sonny Gast, and Erik Gast; and sister Marcella (Edward) Schalon, of St. Joseph; brother-in-law Richard (Patti) Boonstra of Madison, OH; nephews Scott (Lisa) Schalon and Bill (Sarah) Boonstra; nieces Sue Schalon and Jan (Al) Pavlinak; and special friends Debby and Pat Hackett.
