ST. JOSEPH, MI – Ellen L. Bacon, 94, of St. Joseph, formerly of Hudson, MI, went to her heavenly home on Friday, May 25, 2007, at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph after a short illness. A service celebrating her life will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home in St. Joseph with Pastor Blair Hayward officiating. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Van Wert, OH. Ellen was born on June 9, 1912, in Greenville, OH, the daughter of George W. and Susie Lea (Gorsuch) Leas. She spent her early life in Canada and then moved to Hudson, MI, where she lived until April 28, 2006. Since being married, she lived in her home at the corner of Main and Munson Highway in Hudson for nearly 73 years. She married Orville F. “Bill” Bacon on December 30, 1933. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1982. She was a former member of the Hudson Baptist Church and Canandaigua Community Church. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy L. Johnson of St. Joseph and Rebecca L. Brown of Addison, MI; three grandchildren, Barcley A. (Lori) Johnson, Jody L. (Charles) Fryman, and Shelby L. Brown; five great-grandchildren, Zachary Stevens, Parker and Hadley Johnson, and Jacob and Kylie Fryman; a sister in-law, Ruth C. Leas; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, R.G. Leas and Charles Leas; and a sister, Martha M. Fergus.
