Raymond E. Selig, 83, of Stevensville, passed away on Thursday morning, July 5, 2007, at Caretel Inns of Royalton Township.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10: 00 A.M., Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4333 Cleveland Ave., Stevensville, with Rev. Phillip G. Quardokus officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Stevensville. Visitation with the family will be tonight, July 6, 2007, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Memorial donations may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Friends may send the family a condolence message or sign the guest book on-line at www.starks-menchinger.com.
Raymond was born August 16, 1923 in Baroda, MI. He was one of 3 children born to Gustav and Alma Selig. Raymond served his country with distinction during WWII. He received numerous honors and citations including the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, European/African/Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, and a Bronze Campaign Star. On July 14, 1945, he married Shirley Bauman at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor. Together they had two daughters, Sandra and Diane. Raymond was a longtime member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. After 32 years of service, Raymond retired from the St. Joseph Post Office. He was a life member of Disabled Veterans of America. Raymond enjoyed both singing and square-dancing. He and his wife Shirley were active for over 15 years in the Village Squares Square-dancing Club. He was known for his sense of humor and for being an unpredictable prankster. Raymond was always devoted to his family.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Sandra (Terry) Lyons of Lafayette, IN and Diane (Walt) Clark of Stevensville; grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel (Leslie), and Heidi Lakin, Amanda (Brad) Metzger and Wade (Nicole) Clark; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; sister, Lorraine Sutton of Jenison, MI; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert Selig.
