Geneva's Obituary

Geneva M. Benson, 95, of St. Joseph, passed away, Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at her home. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 3003 Leco Ct., St. Joseph, with Rev. Wade Panse officiating. Friends may call beginning at 1:00 P.M. Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center-Building Fund or The Mayo Clinic. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Mrs. Benson was born May 16, 1912 in Reese, Michigan to Peter & Louise (Dodenhof) Stein. On April 30, 1931, she married Melvin L. Benson in Flint, Michigan. Geneva was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center, and O.E.S. American Chapter #234. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. In her spare time, Geneva enjoyed fishing, shuffleboard, bocci ball, knitting, cooking, woodcarving and flower gardening. Mrs. Benson is survived by her son Lee (Marcia) Benson of St. Joseph; her daughter Ann Benson of St. Joseph; three grandchildren-David Benson, Mark Benson, Milisa (Dean) Johnson; two great-grandchildren-Ashley Benson & Shannon (Jack) DeStazio; and three great-great-grandchildren-Kaili, Page and Devon. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin on August 10, 1973, and by three brothers & two sisters.
