Zora D. Gobiel

ST. JOSEPH – Zora D. Gobiel, 99, of St. Joseph, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Caretel Inns of Royalton. There will be no visitation or service. A graveside committal will take place at a later date in St. Joseph City Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice at Home or First Congregational Church in St. Joseph. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Zora was born on October 11, 1907, in Hinchman. She graduated from Berrien Springs High School and attended Business College in South Bend. She worked at Pennell Wood Resort as a cabin girl in the 1920s. She also worked as a clerk for Berrien County Soil Conservation before she married the love of her life, Norton Gobiel, on October 21, 1933. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2002. She was a member of First Congregational Church in St. Joseph. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Gobiel; her “granddog,” Misty; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband, she was preceded in death by a twin sister, Nora, who died at age one; her only brother who died at age 12; and four sisters, Helen, Evelyn, June, and Dorothy.
