Betty M. Strunk

Betty M. Strunk, 82, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away, Monday, June 25, 2007 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Martin Weigand officiating. Burial will follow at Coloma Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of which she was a member. She was adopted and raised by her older sister and her husband, Beatrice (Nichols) & Bruce Smith. On October 29, 1945, she married Elmer Strunk in Galesburg, Michigan. He preceded her in death on October 31, 2003. Betty was employed at Midwest Timer for many years, retiring in 1988. She was known for the excellent Black Walnut Fudge that she made. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, and animals. Mrs. Strunk is survived by her daughter Karen Byrd of Coloma; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great-granchildren; and a sister Violet Marley of Marion, Indiana. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons-Michael Strunk on March 25, 1973 & Bruce Strunk on July 20, 1986, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, and eight brothers & sisters.
