Virginia's Obituary

Virginia Hazel Clupper, 89, of Berrien Center, formerly of Sister Lakes, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital in Berrien Center. A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday in Keeler Cemetery in Keeler Township with Rev. Dr. Bob Braman officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice at Home or Beechwood, the Alzheimer’s unit at Lakeland Continuing Care in Berrien Center. Virginia was born on August 17, 1917, in Sodus, to Charles and Grace Morgan Bowers. On October 23, 1937, she married her long time love, Field Clupper in Indiana. Virginia will be remembered as a hardworking wife and mother who enjoyed making hand quilts, hooked rugs and caring for her family. She was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Sodus. She is survived by her children, Karen (Jim) Clipp of Nappanee, IN, Judy (Pat) Hoffman of Stevensville, and Bill (Sharon) Clupper of Hartford; a brother, Lynn (Stella) Bowers; a sister, Peg (Bob) Tracy; two grandchildren, Michelle (Michael) Marks and Heather Hoffman; three great-grandchildren, Johnathon, Melina, and Bridget Marks; and the kind staff of Beechwood and Unit D, who took care of her lovingly for six and a half years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Field Clupper; a son, Richard Clupper; a brother, Donald Bowers; three sisters, Jean Goody, Ruth Hassle, and Mildred Hill; a granddaughter, Alissa Hoffman; and four great-granddaughters, Jordan, Taylor, Kristin, and Kayla Marks.
