Milen C. Gray

Milen Custer Gray, 78, of St. Joseph, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2007, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital in Berrien Center. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 A.M., on Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Gordon Barry officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M., Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Friends may send the family a condolence message or sign the guest book on-line at www.starks-menchinger.com. Milen was born on January 30, 1929, to William and Mildred (Grover) Gray in Dearborn, MI. He married Marjorie Alice Snow on March 23, 1957 in Benton Harbor. He served as a Yeoman in the U. S. Navy from 1951 – 1956. Before his retirement, Milen worked for the Benton Harbor School District as a Speech Therapist. He was a past president of the Benton Harbor Education Association, a past member of the Benton Harbor Library Board, and the Benton Harbor Citizens Advisory Board. Milen enjoyed Classical music, reading, bird watching, traveling, and spending time with his family. Milen is survived by his children, Kenneth Gray of South Bend, IN, Carol (Donald) Anderson of Harrisburg, PA, and Janet (Shawn Ronan) Hansen of Benton Harbor; and by his grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Kauffman, Teresa Hansen, Megan Anderson, and Stephanie Hansen. Milen was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, and numerous half brothers and sisters.
