Beetris's Obituary

Beetris P. Schlutt, 88, of St. Joseph, went home to God and to join her husband of 66 years on Monday, March 12, 2007, at Caretel Inns of Royalton in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday at Scottdale United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Schneider officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs. Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Scottdale United Methodist Church or Hospice at Home. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mrs. Schlutt was born April 23, 1918 in Arkansas to Harvey & Mollie (McPherson) Amason. On February 29, 1940, she married Elvie Schlutt in Pokagon, Michigan. Beetris was an active member of Scottdale United Methodist Church for over sixty years. She was deeply devoted to her family, especially her son James. She enjoyed many winters in Florida, and playing bingo when she could. Beetris loved all animals, she trained many to do things that no one else would have imagined could be done. Around the house, she enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, and helping her husband with the bait shop. Mrs. Schlutt is survived by two daughters-JoAnn (Thomas) Farrington of Plainfield, IN, Karla (Danny) Lieberman of St. Joseph; two sons-Glenn (Zona) Schlutt of Moncks Corners, SC, James Schlutt of St. Joseph; four grandchildren-Daphne (William) Pemberton, Melissa (Wayne Nicholson)Farrington, Jessica (John) Jones, Kirkland Schlutt; and three sisters-Ruby Logan of Niles, MI, Vera Brazil of Niles, MI, and June Crose of Sunnyvale, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Elvie on September 9, 2006, and by her brother William Amason.
