Nicholas's Obituary
Nicholas Duran, 79, of Baroda, passed away, Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Fr. William Jacobs, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Ruggles Cemetery in Baroda with Military Rites conducted by Coloma American Legions Post #368, VFW Post #1137 of Benton Harbor, and VFW Post #6803 of Watervliet. Friends may call from 9-10 A.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mr. Duran was born September 1, 1927 in Prescott, Arizona to Nicholas & Luz (Diaz) Duran. On January 15, 1952, he married the former Charlotte Rennick in St. Joseph. Nicholas served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed at Whirlpool Corporation in St. Joseph, retiring in 1986 after forty years. Following his retirement, he was employed at D&W in Stevensville, until 2002. Nicholas enjoyed all the people at D&W. He never met a stranger. In his spare time, he enjoyed bicycling, bird watching, flowering gardening, and most of all-spending time with his grandchildren and family. Mr. Duran is survived by his wife Charlotte; four children-Tamra (Fred) Hultgren of Stevensville, Steve (Cindy) Duran of St. Joseph, Leta (Richard) Huebel of St. Joseph, Cheryl (Robert) Clubs of Baroda; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one brother David (Audrey) Duran of Medesto, CA; and his sister Josephine (Tom) Taube of Kalamazoo. Nicholas was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers-“Champ” & Louis Duran.
