EAU CLAIRE – Edward A. Kunst, 86, of Eau Claire, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2007, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 4, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sodus with Rev. Robert Duehlmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in Crystal Springs Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Ed was born on October 23, 1920, in Eau Claire, to Fred and Amelia (Otto) Kuntz. He married Lucille Hauch on December 13, 1941, in South Bend, IN. Over the years, he worked for Whirlpool Corp. and also as a sales and delivery man for Producer’s Creamery, later turned McDonald’s Dairy. He also spent time farming in Eau Claire. Many years ago, Ed was also a former Justice of the Peace in Sodus. In his spare time, he loved to hunt and fish.
Ed was a dedicated Christian who rarely missed Sunday services in church. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sodus. He loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them. He is also remembered as being silly. He always had fun teasing his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille Kunst of Eau Claire; three children, Karen (Kevin) Bailey and Joan (Chuck) Hires, both of Eau Claire, and Daniel Kunst of St. Joseph; his grandchildren, Doug (Dawn) Schlipp, Deborah (Roger) Weir, Chuck Hires, Amy (Bob) Oviatt, and Terri (Brian Riemland) Hires; and his great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Hillary, Hailey, Levi, Zachary, Isaac, Kyle, Callie, Natasha, Eric, Leslie, Megan, and Darci.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rudy Kuntz; and a sister, Anna Jeske.
