Thomas J. Sweeney, Sr., 74, of St. Joseph, passed away, Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Msgr. Michael Osborn officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Sweeney was born November 1, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Thomas was a member of American Legion Post #225. He was an avid Notre Dame, Chicago Bears & White Sox Fan. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren & friends. To his union with Arlene Held Sweeney were born seven children-Kevin (Cindy) Sweeney of St. Joseph, Eileen (Les) Pullins, III of Ann Arbor, Patrick (Edie) Sweeney of St. Joseph, Michael (Jesse Ramirez) Sweeney of Murphy, NC, Mary Kate (Glenn) Andrews of Stevensville, Sean (Michelle) Sweeney of Watervliet, and T.J. Sweeney, who preceded him in death on May 25, 2006. Tom is also survived by nine grandson & five granddaughters. In addition to his son T.J., he was preceded in death by his parents Edward & Anne Karth.
